Collect multiple types of that same Pokemon, transfer all your weakest ones to the Professor, but scrolling to the bottom of its info page. You'll get 'candy' for catching and transferring pokemon. You use the candy + stardust to evolve. You want to train them up first tho, don't evolve right away.

    That's why you want dupes.

you to catch about 100 magikarp (ignoring eggs) to get a gyarados

Could you elaborate on this? Based on what I've seen, it's better to evolve them first then train them. The CP gains seem to be better that way.

If you want a faster boost in CP, just train, otherwise, save for an evolution

You don't save anything evolving / training at different times. Training costs only depend on the level of the pokemon, not what evolution it's in.

The best way is to just catch a high CP pokemon and evolve that. You'll save a TON of stardust
